Thought 0: My Small Digital Revolution

This is Thought 0, the first in a series of reflections that are not about bytes, but about choices.

This blog is my book about the world: anyone can read it and form their own opinions, but I have decided to tell you more, to give you a more human view of me, of who I am, what I do, and how I think.

I want to give it a diary-like feel: every day, or almost every day, I set myself the goal of writing something—the thought or reflection of that day - to share with all of you.

Today I'll start here: because I've decided to bring my digital life within European borders.

I am closing my last account linked to an American company. It is not a question of quality - on the contrary, their services are often convenient and powerful. It is a question of principle. I want my data, my emails, my thoughts (yes, even the ones you are reading now) to travel on servers that respect the same laws that I respect when I pay my taxes or when I raise my 50 chickens.

Open source is my banner: I don't want to depend on those who decide the rules of the game without asking me anything.

I know it may seem naive to some, but I like to think that every small gesture - choosing ProtonMail instead of Gmail or hosting my email on my server, buying local eggs instead of industrial ones - is a thorn in the side of those who treat us like products.

It's a matter of consistency: if I believe in simplicity, respect for other people's ideas, and freedom of choice, then I must also apply this to the bits that represent me.

Maybe I started too quickly, but this is my path. What about you? Have you ever made a choice that seemed small but made you feel freer? Write to me, I'm curious to hear your stories.

Now I'm going to feed the chickens šŸ”
